F.L.A.G.G.
Families Learn And Grow Gardens

What is F.L.A.G.G.?
Town & Country along with United Way of Ashland County, Master Gardener and the Ashland Area Council for Economic Development have come together to create a new community project that will provide the opportunity for individuals and families to plant, prepare and produce a bountiful harvest of flowers and vegetables in their own garden plot.

Why will F.L.A.G.G. be unique?
Because 3 important ingredients go with your garden plot.

  • Education: No matter if you have never had a garden or you are an experienced gardener you will learn so much from the volunteer Master Gardeners including preparing your plot and canning the rewards of your labor.
  • Nutrition: Learn the importance of healthy life styles while enjoying what you grow. Obesity is a major health concern, especially in our children. Exercise and sunshine by "working" in your garden will help promote your personal and family health.
  • Finance Cost Savings: Be amazed at how your food expenses can be lowered by reaping the benefits of producing vegetables from your garden. Mini-Farmer Markets are also part of the summer services of the community gardens.
Where will the gardens be located?
Approximately 20 acres of land is being made available by Town & Country Co-op. The gardens will be located between Cleveland Avenue and Middle Rowsburg Road (close to Cahn Grove Park on the opposite side of the street).
Available plot sizes are 6'x6', 12'x6' or 12'x12'.
Who will be eligible for this project?
The emphasis is to provide plots for poverty level individuals or families based on the State of Ohio 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. Community members will also have the opportunity to assume responsibility of a plot at a nominal fee (6'x6'=$15, 12'x6'=$20, 12'x12'=$25)

To encourage participation a Get Started and Grow garden kit will be provided to each individual/family. The only skill needed to start your garden will be responsibility. You will be expected to take care of your garden throughout the growing season by signing a FLAGG Agreement of Responsibility.  A Get Started and Grow kit will also be available to participating community members (that do not qualify based on the State of Ohio 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines) for $25 if this would be your first gardening experience.
