Q. There is a propane company in the area that advertises the advantage of using HD5 propane and implies that they are the only company who sells it. What is this all about?

A.  HD5 grade propane is the highest quality propane available to consumers in the U.S. and is what practically all propane companies sell to their customers. The standard was developed years ago for the engine fuel industry to insure the propane was suitable for propane combustion engines. To meet the HD5 requirements, propane must consist of the following:

  • Minimum of 90% propane
  • Maximum of 5% propylene
  • Other gases such as butane or methane constitute the remainder

The industry experts will tell you that 25 years ago there were some propane quality issues that prompted the industry to set some standards. But since then, in all reality, HD5 grade propane is the only propane available. Town and Country Propane, just like this company and our other competitors, sell exclusively HD5 grade propane. We at Town & Country Propane use “Friendly, Professional Service and Competitive Pricing” as our marketing approach…this company obviously uses a different approach.
